I am a principal and I was also a long time teacher in Northumberland. But firstly, I am a husband to Dani and a father to three incredible boys Maxx, Knox and Pax.
Becoming a father is probably my number one reason for seeking the nomination. I want to do all I can to help my children and yours have the opportunities to live and work right here at home. I am seeking to be your Nominee to be a part of the most important job any politician can ever undertake and that is to protect and secure the future for our children.
I learned as part of a farming family in Prince Edward County, that you support your neighbours like they were your own family. Like most people, I have faced both difficult situations and difficult times in my life and I only got through them with not only the love and support from my family, but friends and neighbours alike.
I have always lived my life by trying to be there for those who need me. It has been my privilege to be a part of many local organizations, from both charitable to sports, and they have all taught me that we succeed when we work together.
I see the role of any government as being the catalyst and driver for positive change. We need to support people in reaching their potential and to create the conditions for this to happen. Our Liberal government for example, since 2015, has reduced child poverty in this country by a full 50%, a truly remarkable number in such a short period of time.
These are the stories that matter; these are the stories that we as Liberals need to highlight if we want to regain this Riding.
For far too long we have allowed a narrative based on division, rather than a story of many remarkable successes as federal Liberals. We have seen the hallowed halls of Parliament be debased by a narrative of false outrage for personal political gain. We have seen the culture of false outrage be used to deflect from what should be the true narrative of positive change.
As Liberals, we cannot allow those, who are merely attempting, to hijack history through deceitful and dishonest tactics.
When I have told people I am seeking the nomination, I have been asked point blank what my plan is for our Riding. I have said I have three key areas that I believe we need to be focusing on:
Productivity: Opportunity for small and mid-sized businesses, such as greater key financial support for bringing product to market, and support to improve outputs through innovative manufacturing. I want to enhance programing and funding to Community Futures organizations, both here in this Riding and across Eastern Ontario.
Affordability: Housing supports for mortgages and construction, working to come up with solutions with those at the national level and right here at the municipal level, working to enhance programs in place, but making sure that we are getting our share of these dollars, right here at home.
Sustainability: Including farming/agriculture, natural areas, and support for businesses to hire and maintain employment, which ties into a strategy for enhanced productivity for local businesses.
